I couldn’t contain my enthusiasm when I got the word that the powerhouse Dutch Oi! band Razorblade are going to do an exclusive show at “Oi! at the Pub”. So it’s impossible not to reflect on the seismic impact they've had on the genre. Known for their hard-hitting “brickwall” sound—a relentless and uncompromising approach to Oi!—Razorblade was never about fitting neatly into mainstream expectations. Their music has been a raw and uncompromising rallying cry for skinhead culture, filled with pride, rage, and a passion for history and camaraderie.
Founded in 2002, Razorblade's sound cut through the early 2000s like a blast of fresh air for fans of hard-edged Oi!. While other bands sought catchy choruses or lighter tones, Razorblade stood firmly on their own path. Drawing from influences like The 4-Skins, they crafted an intense, relentless style that was equal parts fury and working-class grit. Albums like Days of Glory and My Name Is Vengeance became iconic for their mix of aggression, melody, and pride, and showcased the band’s unique ability to blend intensity with groove.
Razorblade's catalog spans numerous full-length albums, each adding new depth to their signature sound. Their 2014 release, My Name Is Vengeance, marked a return to their roots with historical themes inspired by the city of Den Bosch. A track like "The Battle of Vught" channels centuries-old conflicts, anchoring the music in a strong sense of heritage. As frontman Wouter once noted, Razorblade’s historical themes don’t just serve as lyrical content but as reflections of their own journey: “We try to live up to our name and present a short, power-packed, brutal, explosive, aggro-filled album."
Beyond the battle anthems and fierce compositions, Razorblade also had a lighter side, unafraid to poke fun and write drunken anthems. Songs like "Shitting Out Nails" and "#1 Hit Machine" are fan favorites, capturing the band’s sense of humor and camaraderie.
But whether singing about the daily grind, resisting societal pressures, or paying homage to their culture, Razorblade has always connected with fans on a visceral level.
