Lion's Law - Evermore

In the ever-evolving world of punk music, Lion’s Law has consistently proven themselves as one of the most authentic voices in the Oi! and street punk scenes. Their latest album, Evermore , released on February 7, 2025, solidifies their position not only as stalwarts of the genre but also as innovators who push boundaries while staying true to their roots.

From the opening notes of Sewer Rats to the closing chords of Before Your Eyes , Evermore showcases Lion’s Law at their finest. The band retains their signature style—driving rhythms, sharp guitar work, and anthemic choruses—but they’ve taken things up a notch. Tracks like Brother strike a perfect balance between power and melody, ensuring that even the heaviest songs remain catchy. Wattie’s gritty vocals add depth and emotion, giving each track weight and authenticity.

At its core, Evermore addresses pressing social issues, reflecting the realities of modern life. Songs like The World Is On Fire tackle environmental destruction, while others delve into the struggles of urban living, such as rising rents in Paris. Instead of focusing solely on party anthems, Lion’s Law uses their platform to express frustration and call for unity. These themes are woven seamlessly into the fabric of the album, making it both a musical triumph and a rallying cry for change.

Two standout tracks, Crucified and The Code , pay homage to skinhead traditions by emphasizing working-class identity and shared values within the scene. Meanwhile, The City That Never Dies is tailor-made for live performances, encouraging audiences to sing along as one voice. This blend of introspection and collective spirit makes Evermore a deeply resonant experience.

One of the most unexpected highlights of the album is their cover of A Flock of Seagulls’ I Ran . Transforming the synth-heavy original into a raucous punk anthem, Lion’s Law breathes new life into the song without straying from its essence. Loud backing vocals and a driving rhythm give it a fresh edge, proving that classic tracks can be reimagined successfully when done with respect and creativity.

The creation of Evermore was not without its challenges. Songwriter Louis left the band before recording began, leaving many to wonder how the project would fare. However, the remaining members rose to the occasion, delivering a cohesive effort that stands as perhaps their best work yet.

With Evermore , Lion’s Law has crafted what may very well be their magnum opus. It’s a direct, unapologetic, and profoundly moving piece of art that reaffirms their status among punk legends. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to their music, turning up the volume and immersing yourself in these tracks will leave an indelible mark.
