"Dode Democratie" by MALAD

Dutch band MALAD has made waves once again with their new single "Dode Democratie" ("Dead Democracy"), a searing critique of the political landscape surrounding the latest Dutch elections. Released as the third single from their album MALAD, this track captures the frustration and disillusionment felt by many in the wake of the election results. With raw lyrics and aggressive instrumentation, MALAD delivers a sharp statement on democracy’s shortcomings and the disappointment of broken promises.

"Dode Democratie" features guest vocals from Sucker, a figure well-known in the punk and Oi! scene for his work with bands like Oxymoron and Bad Co. Project. Sucker’s raspy, rebellious voice complements MALAD's sound perfectly, amplifying the sense of outrage and urgency the song conveys. This collaboration infuses the track with both musical firepower and a strong sense of punk solidarity, emphasizing the song's message that democracy as it stands may be faltering.

Musically, "Dode Democratie" is packed with the aggressive energy and sharp edge that fans of MALAD have come to expect. It stands as a defiant anthem for those disenchanted with the political process and is certain to resonate with anyone who feels frustrated by government ineffectiveness and corruption.

The accompanying music video for "Dode Democratie," is filmed, directed, and edited by Robbie "Steedo" for Rock 'n' Roll Video / Square Productions.

The band has also contributed this track to the Oi! Ain't Dead vol. 8 compilation, released by Rebellion Records, further cementing their place in the Oi! and street punk community. This compilation showcases a variety of bands. See my review for that album on this blog.a
